Speeding Issue Update

Hello, Residents,We wanted to provide a follow up to the speeding issues in the neighborhood and excited to share some progress:Lemont PD is approving stop signs for the following locations based the recent traffic assessment conducted in our neighborhood at the request of the HOA.Here are the recommended locations:N/B and S/B Dunmoor at TullamoreN/B and S/B Dunmoor at WaterfordE/B and W/B Waterford at TullamoreN/B and S/B Waterford and TaraN/B and S/B Waterford at LismoreIn terms of timing, the committee meeting with the PD is on Oct 8, where they officially approve the stop signs. Then, the PD will send the request to the Village Board, who will have to amend the ordinance and then vote on it. (It sounds like that could take up to a month). Once the village approves, public works will install them as soon as they can.You may have already noticed a newly installed 'Children at Play' sign near the park. If you believe there are other locations in which a sign that like would be needed, please send your suggestions our way via the "Contact Us" section. We realize that this will not solve all of our speeding problems, but it is a good start. (We love seeing all of the 'slow down' signs at the end of driveways when kids are playing, btw.)We will provide more updates as we move forward in this process. -GOC HOA Board

SD113A Superintendent Anthony McConnell

Mr. McConnell had a family emergency on the night of our Annual Meeting. He was set to speak, but missed. Here is what he sent us after.....Thank you.  My apologies again for jumping on so late. I appreciate your understanding.  Tonight I was going to speak very briefly for the Board about the District's recent referendum.  Below is a summary of my remarks that I prepared. I would be happy to answer any questions from your HOA on the topic or if the question is placed on the ballot for April to organize a Q and A just with your group.  Best Anthony As many of you know District 113A recently had a referendum question on the ballot for the November 3 general election.  While the referendum ultimately did not pass we are encouraged by the strong support it garnered.  The District has worked with the community to address a variety of needs that have arisen through various input processes such as community forums.  In short, the District's lack of space is resulting in class sizes that are some of the highest in the state.  The District proposed an increase of .29 cent in the limiting rate in order to generate an additional 3.5 million dollars a year to address these needs.  The additional funding would have been used to reopen Central school to create more space and for the operating costs associated with that.  In addition, we would hire additional teachers to reduce class sizes and look at bringing in new programs such as full day kindergarten.  The District's needs still remain and we are committed to the solutions that we have proposed.   One possibility to put the question out to the community again at the consolidated election on April 6.  Over the next several weeks we will be working to take a look at what additional questions we can answer from the community and what further clarity we can provide on our proposed solutions.

A Letter From the Village

Here is a letter from the Village of Lemont regarding car a burglary in our area.  Please be vigilant in locking any vehicles that you leave in your driveway or on the street. Thank you. Dear HOA/Neighborhood Watch: In an effort to increase public awareness and safety, we need to notify you of a car burglary that took place on March 26, 2020.  It has also been sent out to the community via the Civic Send off of our Village website.  CAR BURGLARY – 03/26/2020 Last night, the Lemont Police viewed a car burglar getting inside an occupied vehicle which was previously reported stolen out of another town.  LPD officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, however the offenders fled the scene disregarding traffic laws in their attempt to escape.  Subsequent to this event and after daybreak, the department has taken multiple Burglary to Motor Vehicle reports for unlocked vehicles in the Chestnut Crossing and surrounding neighborhoods.  In addition to those reports, a motor vehicle was temporarily stolen from the Chestnut Crossing neighborhood that was left unlocked with the keys inside the vehicle.  The offenders were unable to go back to the vehicle they were stealing, due to being chased away by officers.  That vehicle was recovered with nothing removed.  Please be vigilant in locking your vehicles and garage doors for the night.  Please never leave your keys in the car after exiting.  Your partnership in locking your doors will help in providing a safer community for all of the citizens of Lemont.  If you see something suspicious, please do not hesitate, call 911. Judy RadomskiAdministrative Assistant to the Chief
